摘　　要：马库斯·克拉克的长篇小说《无期徒刑》被誉为19世纪最重要、最著名的澳大利亚小说之一,该小说也奠定了作家在澳大利亚文学史上的地位。文章通过对小说中澳洲大陆早期居民包括流放犯与殖民者的文化自卑心理进行探究,分析流放制度对文化自卑情结的根源性影响,剖析文化自卑对澳洲白人殖民定居者身份认同的影响,从而进一步考察文化自卑对澳大利亚民族心理的影响。研究表明早期殖民流放犯与殖民定居者在澳大利亚丛林艰辛恶劣的生存环境中滋生的文化自卑情结,是澳大利亚民族身份含混和民族心理不自信的根源。For The Term of His Natural Life,a novel by Marcus Clarke,is regarded as one of the most important and classic Australian novels in the 19th century.This article intends to explore the cultural cringe complex of the early settlers of the New World in Australia.It argues that the exile system has produced the cultural cringe,which has exerted much influence on the identity recognition of the early settlers in Australian colonies.As a result,the cultural cringe thus formed has further influenced Australian identity in the process of Australian national psychology.
