Driven by globalization and socio-economic development, the tourism industry has gradually become one of the key sectors promoting national economic growth. This paper examines the multifaceted impact of China's tourism industry on its national economy.Despite a recent decline in the production-inducing effects of the tourism industry, its direct and indirect influences on other sectors remain significant, surpassing those of most other industries. The tourism industry has a sensitivity coefficient lower than 1,indicating a slower response to economic fluctuations;however, its impact coefficient is higher than 1,demonstrating its substantial role in driving economic growth. As a labor-intensive sector, tourism excels in job creation, ranking second among 20 industrial sectors in terms of employment contribution. The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 dealt a severe blow to the tourism industry, affecting both production and employment. In response to this challenge, the paper suggests that policymakers focus on the sustainable development of the tourism industry, taking measures to address challenges like the pandemic, and promoting its continuous recovery and long-term prosperity.
