摘  要:考利(Malcolm Cowley)是20世纪美国重要的文学批评家、诗人,也是研究“迷惘一代”文学的权威学者。考利与“盛期现代主义”诗人如T·S·艾略特、庞德等对待商业市场和大众读者的态度不同,他尤其关注作家在商业化社会中的生存困境,积极探寻作家职业发展与文学市场、出版机制之间的有机共存。本文结合现代性语境,从考利个人际遇出发,考察他在调和文学创作与出版市场的矛盾关系、构建文人共同参与的“文学共同体”等方面的努力,进而阐明考利对文学与商业市场之间博弈与协调的独特见解。Malcolm Cowley was an important literary critic,poet and an authoritative scholar of the “lost generation” literature in the 20th century.Cowley has different attitudes from “high modernism” poets like T.S.Eliot and Pound towards the commercial market and mass readers.He particularly emphasizes the survival difficulties of writers and actively explores the organic coexistence between writers' career development,literary market,and publishing mechanisms.Starting from Cowley's personal experience,this paper examines his efforts in reconciling the contradictory relationship between literary creation and the publishing market in the context of modernity,in order to build a “literary community” where literati could participate together.This paper further elucidates Cowley's unique insights into the conflict and his coordination between literature and the commercial market.
