The Political Pattern at the Turn of the Two Song Dynasties as Reflected in WANG Zao's Empress Dowager’s Personal Handwritten Imperial Edict to her Country

摘　　要：《皇太后告天下手书》是汪藻奉命以元祐皇后之名书写,宣告天下由康王赵构继承大统,实为收拢人心、维系赵宋统治的四六文。此书客观反映了两宋之际政治格局:就赵宋内部状况而言,“中原无主,暗流涌动”,传统的赵宋王朝统续存在不稳定因素;从南北政权之间、伪政权与赵宋政权之间来看,“金强宋弱,金进宋退”,金朝的强盛与宋朝的孱弱形成鲜明对比。在此格局的影响下,赵宋君臣亦展现出“期盼中兴”和“渐进保守”的复杂政治心态。Empress Dowager’s Personal Handwritten Imperial Edict to her Country authored by WANG Zao under the name of Empress Dowager Yuanyou,announced that Prince Kang,ZHAO Gou,would succeed the throne.This edict,written in the parallel prose style,aimed to consolidate public support and maintain the Song dynasty’s rule.The document objectively reflects the political pattern at the turn of the the Northern and Southern Song dynasties.Internally within the Song realm,there was a lack of central leadership and underlying currents of unrest,indicating instability in the traditional succession of the Song Dynasty,Externally,in the context of relations between northern and southern regimes,and between the puppet regime and the Song regime,the edict highlights the stark contrast of“Jin Dynasty’s strength and Song Dynasty’s weakness,Jin Dynasty’s advancement and Song Dynasty’s retreat”.This dynamic underscores the Jin Dynasty’s burgeoning power and the Song Dynasty’s frailty.Influenced by this pattern,the Song Dynasty’s monarch and ministers exhibited a complex political mindset characterized by“hopes for revival”and a“gradual conservative approach”.
