Mythology is the prototype for the narrative, structural discourse, character shaping, sym⁃bolic expression and thematic construction of Dream of the Red Mansion. It is crucial to a comprehensive understanding and research on Dream of the Red Mansion. However,in the more than 200 year research his⁃tory of Dream of the Red Mansion, issues such as the mythological perspective, encoding and re encoding of mythological prototypes, mythological content, and the mythological structure and symbols it brings have not been fully valued, and even a phenomenon of“de mythologizing”has emerged in the study of Dream of the Red Mansion. This phenomenon of“de mythologizing”manifests as ignoring the existence and signifi⁃cance of myths, commenting against the original intention of myths, interpreting them in a“anti mythologi⁃cal”way, deconstructing mythological content through“autobiography”,criticizing myths or advocating for the deletion of myths, and disregarding research on mythological parts. The study of“de mythology”is not only far from the literary nature of Dream of the Red Mansion, but also far from the true thematic signifi⁃cance of Dream of the Red Mansion.
