Black classicism is one of the important features for African American literary creation, and classical tendency is also a deep-rooted tradition of African American literature. The meaning of classicism to African Americans is far beyond the literary esthetic level. On the one hand,it rebuilds the connection between the blacks and the antique, challenging the foundation of racial slavery. On the other hand, classicism was once constructed as a cultural capital by the black community.Classical learning was considered as an important way for African Americans to acquire citizenship, improve national character and shape national leaders.Taking Du Bois's interpretation of classical mythology as an example,it can be found that in the literature of African Americans, the combination of the Greco-Roman mythological world and the contemporary society forms a cultural fusion,in which the archetypal myth is rewritten into a new myth, rooted in the black experience,to resist racism.
