In ancient Chinese paintings, there were many depictions of the character's reading. However, most of the readers are male, and the pictures often depict the scenery of mountains and water. The images of female reading began to flourish in the late Ming Dynasty, mostly depicting indoor reading scenes, and there is a phenomenon of famous prostitutes being painted. Both are reading images, but they present different scenes in terms of the gender.Starting from the perspective of space and function, this paper aims to analyze the reading images of male and female, and to discover the differences between them, which can improve the study of reading images in paintings.
