The contemporary American writer Matthew Anderson's novel Feed, continuing science fiction's critique of consumerism, shows great concerns about modern society under the siege of intelligent consumption. In the fictional world of the novel,a chip implanted in almost everyone's brain never stops feeding them with desire for consumption as well as new conceptions of happiness, which results in extreme alienation of individual personality, rigid distinctions in interpersonal relationships, and a reduced social relationship of consumption.Wrtten in an era when consumerism tends to be a global ideology,"this novel warns against a dystopia where the collusion between intelligent technology and consumerism leads to the cultural logic of a consumption-oriented society and way of life.
