Kazuo Ishiguro's novel Klara and the Sun depicts the posthuman life of robots and the transhuman.Transhuman Josie, her daily life, and especially her physical llness constitute the major part of the novel. The narrator does not dwell on the factual details of her illness, focusing instead on the metaphorical meaning of that illness.Josie's illness reveals the harm that technical colonization of everyday life exerts on interpersonal relationships, and it reflects further problems of social production and consumption due to instrumental rationality and the logic of capital. The acceleration of consumption in turn results in alienation between people and things, and thus robots become the consumable objects of the transhuman, which are constantly updated and then abandoned.Kazuo Ishiguro criticizes such social problems in transhuman society and imagines a way of spiritual salvation by way of recycling old things, which also suggests a means of solving the interpersonal problem caused by technology.
