Objective To analyze the effect of“10000-step”exercise on the physical and mental health of occupational population, and to provide basis for the prevention and control of chronic diseases in occupational population. Methods Professional individuals who completed a walking task in Shenzhen Baoan District in 2021 were selected for this study.Walking data were collected using specialized pedometers.Physical and mental health indicators, including body mass index(BMI),body fat percentage, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, sleep quality score, anxiety score, and depression score, were measured before and after the walking intervention.Generalized linear models were employed to analyze changes in these health indicators before and after the intervention. Results A total of 499 subjects participated, comprising 135 males and 364 females.Prior to the walking intervention,BMI was(22.83±2.81)kg/m^(2),body fat percentage was 27.50%±6.11%,and sleep quality score was 4.62±2.60.Following the intervention, significant reductions were observed in diastolic blood pressure[(22.60±2.75)kg/m^(2)],body fat percentage(26.26%±7.50%),and sleep quality score(3.79±6.94)(all P<0.05).Systolic blood pressure decreased after reaching 13000 to 15000 steps, albeit not significantly(P>0.05).Changes in physical and mental health indicators after the 100-day walking intervention were analyzed using generalized linear models. Results indicated that compared to averaging 10000 to 12999 steps daily, sleep quality scores decreased by 0.52 with over 15000 steps(P<0.05),and depression scores decreased by 2.02 points with 13000 to 14999 steps(P<0.05).No significant differences were found in other indices among different daily step averages. Conclusion Engaging in scientific walking interventions of“10000-step”exercise can improve BMI,blood pressure, sleep quality, and depression among professional individuals, thereby playing a positive role in chronic disease prevention and management.
