摘 要:社会公正与个体道德发展是西方正义伦理观的基石,二者间的关系则是怀特黑德在《尼克尔男孩》中探讨正义伦理的关键。小说表明,“以暴制暴”和“和平主义”因无法触及导致社会不公的正义原则,容易沦为白人统治者掌控弱势群体的工具。本文认为,主人公在掌握斗争策略的同时通过自我提升成为道德行为主体,突破了这两种抗暴方式的正义效能局限,并在黑白跨种族共同体围绕共同正义诉求的合作展望中,为非裔族群获取正义赢得了机会,因而也是小说所着力阐发的正义实现路径。Social justice and individual moral development are two cornerstones in western justice ethics.Their relation is the ethical keynote for Colson Whitehead’s The Nickle Boys.In the novel,“meeting violence via violence”and“pacificism”cannot change the twisted rules that cause social injustice,hence will easily be made use of by white rulers to control disadvantaged groups.This paper assumes that the protagonist’s manipulation of struggle strategies and his self-promotion to become capable moral subject succeed in overcoming the ethical limitation of these two fighting methods.In his prospect of transracial cooperation between African Americans and poor whites due to their common justice appeal,he wins a real opportunity to gain justice for his race.This is also the road to realize justice elaborated by the novel.
