Cancer-related insomnia(CRI)is a sleep disorder that occurs in the diagnosis and treatment process of cancer. The incidence of CRI in cancer patients is significantly higher than that in the normal population, ranging from 52.6%to 67.4%,and this disorder seriously affects the quality of life of the patients.Engaging in the treatment of cancer and its related complications for a long time,Professor Jia Mei has accumulated rich experience in the treatment of CRI from phlegm.Professor Jia believes the root cause of CRI lies in phlegm obstructing the flow and movement of blood,qi,and water. The main pathogeneses include phlegm obstructing qi movement and damaging liver, phlegm inducing blood stasis and damaging heart, and phlegm obstructing water and damaging kidney.Accordingly, the treatment should follow the principles of soothing the liver, tonifying the heart, and warming the kidney, which will regulate the qi movement, blood vessels, and water passage. After the phlegm is resolved and turbidity cleared, the sleep disorder can be alleviated.Professor Jia′s experience provides a new idea for the clinical diagnosis and treatment of CRI.
