“勤勉话语”在英国文学中的流变研究

摘　　要：西方思想史中的“勤勉”观念在十八、十九世纪英国的社会转型期作为一种文学中的修辞策略得以充分地发展与演变。论文通过对于当时英国小说中不同层面围绕着“勤勉”这一话题所展开的讨论——包括“勤勉”如何为资产阶级原始积累的创业神话提供了一件光彩的合法性外衣使其产生对于资产阶级欲望合理化与财富获取正当化的观念认同、日渐式微的贵族阶级与日益强大的中产阶级的文化趣味与领导权之争,国家身份建构的思考、中产阶级对于工人阶级的教化与规训、维多利亚时期工业小说对勤勉问题的反诘与质问,来梳理出一张有关勤勉话语在十八、十九世纪英国小说中流变的谱系图,并在此基础上探寻其演变之逻辑。This paper starts with examining the concept of“industry”in Western intellectual history and explores how this idea,as a rhetorical strategy in literature,became a manifestation of power discourse and moral principles during the social transformation period in the 18th-and 19th-century Britain.This paper explores the origins,development,and evolution of“industry”in the intellectual history.Through examining discussions on the topic of“industry”in different aspects of British novels at that time,including how the idea of“industry”provided a shining legitimacy cloak for the entrepreneurial myth of primitive accumulation of the bourgeoisie,creating a concept of rationalization of their desires and legitimization of wealth acquisition,the cultural taste and leadership struggle between the declining aristocracy and the rising middle class,the national identity construction,the education and training of the working class by the middle class,as well as the questioning and interrogation of the issue related to industry in Victorian industrial novels.This paper presents a genealogy of the transformation of the discourse of“industry”in the 18th-and 19th-century British literature,and explores the logic of its evolution.
