摘　　要：文章运用历史分析的方法,以与葛雷相关的报告、档案、信札、电报、报纸等历史文献为基础,对中华基督教青年会全国协会体育部干事葛雷在华服务期间(1920—1927)从事体育相关工作的情况进行了全面而广泛的考察和研究。文章围绕葛雷与中华基督教青年会全国协会体育部的基本情况,葛雷在华期间的职务及人际关系网络,葛雷在华期间的社会状况及对其影响,葛雷在华期间的体育贡献,当时社会对葛雷的关注与评价等五个方面展开研究。葛雷在近代中国体育史上占有极为重要的地位,在推动近代中国体育的现代转型方面发挥了重要作用。通过对葛雷的研究,能够更深刻地认识和了解近代中国体育发展与变革的历程,同时也有利于深入理解中外体育交流对推动体育发展的重要意义。Using the method of historical analysis and based on historical documents such as reports,archives,letters,telegrams and newspapers related to J.H.Gray,this paper makes an investigation and study on Gray,who was the physical director in National Committee of Y.M.C.A.of China,who was engaged in sports related work during his service in China(1920-1927).The content mainly includes the basic information of Gray and the Physical Department of National Committee of Y.M.C.A.of China,Gray’s position and interpersonal network during his stay in China,the social situation at that time and its impact in China,Gray’s contribution during his stay in China,and the social concern and evaluation of Gray at that time.Gray occupies an extremely important position in the history of sports.Through the study of Gray,we can have a deeper understanding about the development and transformation of sports in modern China.We can also understand the important significance of sports exchanges between China and foreign countries in promoting the development of sports.
