Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a chronic degenerative disease of the joints that causes pain and dysfunction, severely affecting daily activities.Drug and surgical treatment of knee osteoarthritis may produce side effects and postoperative complications.Physical therapy is now being applied more and more widely in clinical practice, including exercise therapy and physical factor therapy.Exercise therapy has significant effects on knee osteoarthritis, but it also has shortcomings such as the lack of exercise dose consensus and compliance. In recent years, physical factor therapy has become a new and effective means to treat knee osteoarthritis.Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS),a non-invasive technique for modulating neuronal activity in the cerebral cortex, has been found to reduce inflammation and pain in patients with knee osteoarthritis. This article will review the recent progress of tDCS in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis.
