Generalized anxiety disorder(GAD)has garnered significant attention in the academic community due to the effective and low-side-effect treatments offered by traditional Chinese medicine(TCM).The Futan(latent phlegm)theory, with its long historical roots, has been a cornerstone in the diagnosis and treatment of mental illnesses in TCM.Its application can offer innovative approaches to treating phlegm-related diseases. This paper aims to explore the etiology and pathogenesis of GAD through the lens of the Futan theory, integrating modern medical research on intestinal flora,a current hot topic.By identifying the correlations and shared characteristics between GAD and latent phlegm, this study seeks to deepen the scientific understanding of anxiety disorder treatments.Additionally,it aims to establish the theoretical foundation for using the renowned TCM formula,Wendan(GallbladderWarming)Decoction,in treating such disorders. This exploration provides a theoretical basis for the future prevention and treatment of GAD.
