August Strindberg exhibited a particular interest in the workings of the human brain and psychological activities early in his career, which is prominently reflected in Miss Julie, often considered a representative of naturalistic drama.Strindberg externalized the war within human minds, portraying a"battle of the brains"aimed at delineating the human spiritual world. The play vividly depicts the process where the strong-willed"new man"attempts to influence the weaker-willed""old man",with language serving as the primary tool in this endeavor. Therefore,Miss Julie can be seen as a prelude to expressionism.Strindberg's exploration of the will of the strong and his pursuit of""dramatic truth"determined the innovative staging techniques of Miss Julie, establishing its modernity.
