基于句法标注语料库的英语书面语复句使用频数研究

摘　　要：复句是人类语言中普遍存在的复杂句子类型,由于其句法结构的复杂性及所含从句类型的多样性,一直以来为学术界的研究重点。本文借助Brown与LOB两个英语书面语语料库,从复句总使用频数、文体、语言变体以及复句所含从句的类型与数量4个维度,对英语书面语的复句使用频数进行了计量探究。研究发现,文体会显著影响英语复句的使用频数,在宗教、文学、传记和散文中使用频数最高,而在小说中则最低,这种差异与文本的严肃性或正式性有关;语言变体对英语复句使用频数没有显著性影响;复句所含从句的类型与数量对英语复句使用频数均有显著性影响,无论是美式英语还是英式英语,含有关系从句的复句使用频数均不为最低,与前人的相关研究结论相悖。Complex sentence is a complicated sentence type in human language.Because of the complexity of its sentence structure and the diversity of types of subordinate clauses,it has always been the focus of academic research.We used Brown and LOB corpus to quantitatively explore the frequency of English complex sentences from four dimensions:overall frequency,genre,language variety,and the number and types of subordinate clauses contained in complex sentences.The results show that:genre significantly affects the frequency of complex sentences,which is the highest in religion,literature,biography and prose,and the lowest in novels,which may be related to the seriousness or formality of text;the differences of language varieties have no significant difference in the frequency of complex sentences;the number and type of subordinate clauses have a significant impact on the frequency of complex sentences.Whether American English or British English,the frequency of complex sentences with relational clauses is not the lowest,which is contrary to the previous relevant research conclusion.
