摘　　要：21世纪初,在游客数量快速增长、气候变化、城市发展造成污染加剧的情况下,莫高窟保护面临着巨大的挑战。敦煌基金会就是在这种情况下出现的。2010年,在樊院长的要求下,倪密·盖茨和李培德一起在美国特拉华州正式成立非营利组织敦煌基金会。自成立以来,敦煌基金会就与敦煌研究院不断发展的需求密切相关,以支持敦煌研究院建立游客中心、举办针对中国保护学者的培训项目、举办相关展览等多种方式助力敦煌文化艺术的研究与弘扬。At the beginning of the 21st century,the conservation of the Mogao Caves faced formidable challenges such as rapidly increasing numbers of visitors,climate change and increased pollution from urban development.It was under such conditions that the Dunhuang Foundation was established.In 2010,at the behest of Director Fan Jinshi,Mimi Gates and Peter Little worked to set up the Dunhuang Foundation,a non-profit organization,in Delaware,USA.Since its inception,the Dunhuang Foundation has been devoted to the evolving needs of the Dunhuang Academy,and has helped with the research and promotion of Dunhuang culture and art.Specifically,the foundation has aided with the construction of a Visitor Center,the development of training programs for Chinese conservators,and various exhibitions of Dunhuang art and culture.
