《广州杂志》创办始末及其与英国汉学早期发展的关系

摘　　要：《广州杂志》由英国东印度公司驻华高级官员于1831年在中国澳门创办,是早期外国人在中国本土出版的英文报刊之一。但由于发行时间过短且发行量有限,该刊未受到学界广泛关注。本文以现存五期《广州杂志》为研究对象,结合相关史料考察其刊行情况和内容特色,并联系英国汉学早期发展历程,探讨该刊在英国汉学史上的重要地位。本文重点考证《广州杂志》的创刊背景及其主要创办者马治平和德庇时的创刊动因,指出其独树一帜的办刊宗旨对英国汉学期刊的专业化发展具有重要的奠基作用。The Canton Miscellany,established in Chinese Macao in 1831 by senior officials of the British East India Company,was one of the earliest English-language periodicals published in China.However,due to its short run and limited circulation,the journal has not been widely of concern of the academic community.This paper takes the existing five issues of The Canton Miscellany as the research object,examines its publication and content characteristics in conjunction with relevant historical materials,and discusses the important position of the journal in the early period of British Sinology.The paper focuses on the background of the journal’s founding,particularly the motivations of its main founders,Charles Marjoribanks and John F.Davis,and points out that its unique philosophy has played an important role in the professional development of British Sinological periodicals.
