摘　　要：在2020年布克奖获奖小说《舒吉·贝恩》中,道格拉斯·斯图尔特将“残酷”视为一种方法论的关键词,在叙事情节、形式和民族性三个方面建构格拉斯哥城市叙事的新趋向。“残酷”既是去工业化浪潮下城市底层生活状况的真实写照,也是斯图尔特为格拉斯哥小说确立的新现实主义美学立场。通过描绘底层女性在日常生活中遭遇的“残酷”现实,斯图尔特传达出当代苏格兰性就是个体残酷感知的理解。Douglas Stuart considers“cruelty”as a key concept with methodological significance in his 2020 Booker Prize winning novel Shuggie Bain,which constructing a new approach in Glasgow urban writing in terms of plot,form and ethnic identity.“Cruelty”is not only the portrait of the living conditions of the underclass under the wave of deindustrialization,but also an aesthetic stance in Stuart's Glasgow novel writing.By depicting the“cruel”reality faced by underclass women in their daily lives,Stuart conveys his understanding of contemporary Scottishness that is the individual's perception of cruelty.
