摘　　要：乡村田园书写往往因其对残酷社会现实的遮蔽和美化被贬抑为虚假的艺术建构,然而其所蕴含的价值观和情感结构等有机现实往往遭到忽视。作为19世纪末新英格兰最具代表性的地域作家,朱厄特几乎在整个创作生涯中都在想象性地再现新英格兰乡村,然而她的乡村素描并不拘泥于传统地域现实主义文学对客观“事实”细节的充分呈现,而是在有选择性地建构“旧新英格兰”乡村生活延续的田园幻象中折射19世纪末现代社会转型期新英格兰乡村以及美国社会的本相。换言之,朱厄特的新英格兰乡村并不囿于历史之内,而是旨在重新创造历史;她是选择性地重塑关于彼时新英格兰乡村记忆,而非复原新英格兰乡村记忆。朱厄特的《深港》采用双重叙事,使不同立场和视角的叙事者们形成对话中主体平等的“邻里”,使读者能够在对存在争议的新英格兰乡村生活及其往昔的重构中,对其过去、当下和未来有更多的理解和思考。Rural writing with pastoral inclination is often dismissed as a kind of false artistic construction because of its obscuring and beautifying the harsh social reality,but the organic reality such as the values and structure of feelings it contains is often ignored.As the most representative regional writer in New England at the end of the 19th century,Sarah Orne Jewett has been imaginatively reproducing the New England countryside almost throughout her creative career.However,her rural sketches are not limited to the full presentation of physical“facts”in traditional regional and realistic literature.It reflects the essence of the New England countryside and the American society in the late 19th century through selectively constructing the pastoral illusion of the continuation of the“Old New England”rural life in the 18th century.In other words,Jewett's New England countryside is not confined to history,but aims to recreate it;She selectively reconstructs the memories of rural New England at the time,not restores rural New England memories.Jewett's Deephaven adopts double narration,not deliberately taking sides with any of the community perspectives,but constructing“neighbors”in conversation,so that readers can have more understanding and thinking about the past,the present and the future in the reconstruction of the contested history.
