摘　　要：菲利普·罗斯的《背叛》并非仅仅是一个美国犹太人因为极端右翼的麦卡锡主义的控诉文化而走向理想毁灭的悲剧,在描述艾拉参与左派运动的过程中,罗斯有意突显出战后早期冷战背景下的美国自由主义左派同被视为罗斯福新政继承者的亨利·华莱士的进步党及1948年的总统选举之间的关联,以第二自我兼叙述者祖克曼被政治的启蒙“父亲”教化的形式,展现了20世纪四五十年代美国自由主义政治同公民个体生活之间的纠葛,小说不仅折射出战后早期美国左派试图通过继承建国时期的托马斯·潘恩的政治遗产确证自身的合法性,并采用民粹主义的政治策略来宣传乌托邦的理想,而且揭示了丹尼尔·贝尔关于意识形态之终结神话的虚构性,罗斯隐含的新政自由主义立场也受到了冷战时期小阿瑟·施莱辛格关于自由主义的“生命中心”思想的影响。I Married a Communist written by Philip Roth is not just a tragedy of a Jewish person harmed by the right-wing McCarthyism.On describing Ira's participation of the left-wing movements,Roth gives prominence to the relationship between the Liberal Left,the Progressive Party leading by Henry Wallace,and the presidential election of 1948,showing the entanglement between the liberal politics and the citizens'life of the 1940s and 1950s of America through Zuckerman's edification by his political enlightenment father.The novel manifests the efforts of early American Left after the war to prove their own legitimacy by inheriting the legacy of Thomas Paine and Abraham Lincoln,and to advertise Utopia through publicizing populism.Besides,it reveals the fictionality of Daniel Bell's myth of The End of Ideology.Roth's implicit position of The New Deal Liberalism is influenced by Arthur Schlesinger,Jr's idea of The Vital Center.
