摘　　要：作为英国19世纪90年代最具影响力的文艺期刊之一,《黄面志》是理解“世纪末”文艺思潮的关键所在。这份以“书”之名发行的刊物挑衅了传统的期刊文学与艺术审美,践行着“为艺术而艺术”的理念,然而它所展露的现代性和进步性又充斥着颓废享乐的消极含义。借助“黄色”在19世纪西方艺术和出版行业中所承载的矛盾的文化想象,《黄面志》在前卫与低俗间维持了一种微妙的平衡。其明黄色封面以隐喻的方式呼应着英国工业化的产物——黄雾,成为世纪末复杂情绪的贴切表述,并将这一时期渲染成了许多学者口中“黄色的九十年代”。As one of the most influential periodicals in the last decade of the 19th century,The Yellow Book is crucial to understanding the trend of thoughts in the British fin de siecle.Published in the form of books,it challenged traditional periodical literature and aesthetics,promoting the idea of"art for art's sake".Meanwhile,its modernity and progressiveness were characterized by negative connotations like decadence or indulgence.Resorting to the inconsistent cultural imaginations that existed in Western art and publishing industry during the 19th century,The Yellow Book maintained a delicate balance between the avant-garde and the vulgar.The daffodil cover of this periodical metaphorically echoed with the yellow fog,which was a complication of industrialization in England,becoming quite an expression for the sophisticated emotions in the fin de siecle.It turned the decade into"the yellow nineties"employed by not a few scholars.
