This paper analyzes the major issues and themes in contemporary Russian dystopian novels. We believe that the plot of the loss of faith in the immortality of written and book culture is often accompanied by debates about human nature or the dangers of progress, which are usually considered completely inevitable,in contemporary dystopian literature. The 20th-century dystopian literature demonstrates human life after a global technological catastrophe(or progress),predicts a new world political landscape, and critically reflects on historical events, cultural norms, and values. This paper holds that the most significant signs of the 21st-century dystopian literature are the emergence of tragic stories about the transformation of book culture, and the great concern about the plot of the loss of cultural symbols which are closely related to human free moral and spiritual choice.
