摘　　要：加拿大华裔学者陈忠平的专著《商会与近代中国的社团网络革命》,不仅为研究商会史提供了新视角,而且对探索商会史研究如何取得新拓展不无神益。该著构思“社团网络革命”新理论,并将其运用于实证研究,阐明江浙地区发展的商会社团网络通过空前的关系制度化、扩大化、多元化及其成员的互动强化,在近代中国的社会与政治版图中激起一场“网络革命”。这一理论对于研究近代海内外华商与华侨社团之间的联动,以及与中国的互动及其影响,均不乏启迪和借鉴意义。该著还运用“社团网络革命”理论对商会的起源、商会的功能与作用等重要问题进行了新探讨,提出不少新的学术见解。不过,比较遗憾的是,该书没有在社团网络新视野下对商会最重要的经济功能与作用进行新探讨,而且在这方面的内容也比较薄弱。Amid the decline in studies of early modern Chinese chambers of commerce,Chen Zhongping's Chinese-translated monograph,Modern China's Network Revolution:Chambers of Commerce and Sociopolitical Change in the Early Twentieth Century offers a fresh perspective and valuable insights for further research.The book introduces the innovative concept of"network revolution"and applies it to empirical research.It illustrates how the networks of chambers of commerce in the Jiangsu and Zhejang regions triggered a"network revolution"within early modern China's social and political landscape through unprecedented institutionalization,expansion,diversification of relations,and strengthened member interactions.This theory inspires new studies on the actions of Chinese merchants and overseas Chinese associations,their interactions with China,and the resulting impacts.Additionally,the book uses the"network revolution"concept to re-examine the origins,functions,and roles of chambers of commerce,ffering many new academic insights.However,the economic functions and roles of chambers of commerce from the perspective of chamber networks are not addressed,which is an area for future exploration.
