论海明威硬汉精神的新内涵——以《老人与海》中男孩曼诺林为中心

摘　　要：《老人与海》中男孩曼诺林往往被读者与评论家所忽视。尽管海明威对曼诺林着墨不多,但其在生活与精神上给予老渔人圣迪亚戈以支撑,象征着老人生命与精神的延续,成为作者与老人共同选定的下一代“硬汉”。圣迪亚戈的硬汉性格表现出坚强中的软弱,曼诺林的硬汉性格表现为软弱中的坚强,两者的叠加和互补才是硬汉精神的新内涵。“老人与少年”的人物设计更具有普遍性和隐喻性,夹杂着软弱、柔情的硬汉更有人性的魅力“,圣迪亚戈+曼诺林”的新硬汉形象展现出海明威塑造人物形象的高度和深度。The boy Manolin in The Old Man and the Sea is often neglected by readers and critics.Although Hemingway didn't write much about him,Manolin supports the old fisherman Santiago both in life and spirit.He symbolizes the continuation of the old man's life and spirit,becoming a next"tough guy"appointed by the author and Santiago.The tough guy character of Santiago shows strength containing weakness,while Manolin's tough guy character demonstrates weakness including strength.The superposition and complementation of the two characters is the new connotation of the tough guy spirit.The character design of"the old and the young"is universal and metaphorical,which results in a tough guy with more human charms,mixed with weakness and tenderness.The new code hero of"Santiago plus Manolin"reveals the height and depth in Hemingway shaping character images.
