伊丽莎白·乔利短篇小说中女性“他者”形象研究——以《王子的又一假期》和《五英亩处女地》为例  

A Study on the Female Images as"the Other"in Elizabeth Jolley's Short Stories:A Case Study of"Another Holiday for the Prince"and"Five Acre Virgin"

摘　　要：2023年恰逢伊丽莎白·乔利(Elizabeth Jolly,1923-2007)诞辰100周年。作为书写边缘人物人生的作家,乔利在其著名短篇小说集《五英亩处女地及其他故事》中也讨论了多元文化背景下,边缘人物自我身份构建的过程。笔者认为,在《王子的又一假期》和《五英亩处女地》这2个故事中,乔利书写了父权和殖民双重体系压迫下的“他者”女性艰难的生存处境。本文通过阐释故事中“我”和“母亲”这两种不同的人物形象,展示了女性在“他者”身份建构下顺从的一面和非传统的一面,以及她们最终难以逃出“他者”牢笼的悲剧命运。The year of 2023 marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Elizabeth Jolly(1923-2007).Jolley,the writer who wrote about the lives of marginal characters,discussed the process of self-identity construction of marginal characters under the multicultural background in her famous short story Five Acre Virgin and Other Stories.The author holds the view that Jolley portrayed the difficult survival situation of"the Other"women under the oppression of patriarchy and colonialism in her Another Holiday for the Prince and Five Acre Virgin.This article attempts to reveal women's obedience and defiance to the"the Other"and the tragic fate of women's difficulty in getting rid of the"the Other"cage by interpreting the two character"I"and"mother"in the short stories.
