摘  要:为研究20世纪上半叶哈佛大学与中国现代数学发展的关系,采用文献研究法,以留学生为中心,重点考察了中国人赴哈佛大学学习数学的历史起源、20世纪上半叶哈佛大学对中国数学留学生的培养情况、以及这些留学生归来后对中国现代数学发展的影响,从而可以清楚地看到哈佛大学是中国近代重要的海外数学人才培养基地,这些留学生回国后主持或参与创建了北京大学数学系、南开大学数学系等中国最早一批数学系,还参与到编译数学教科书、统一数学名词、创建中国数学会等学术团体、创立中央研究院数学研究所等研究机构的活动中来,为现代数学在中国的建制化发展做出了奠基性贡献。In order to explore the relationship between Harvard University and the development of modern mathematics in China in the first half of the 20th century,the literature research method was used to investigate how it happened that Chinese students went to Harvard University to study mathematics,the cultivation of these students at Harvard University in the first half of the 20th century,and the influence of these mathematicians on the development of modern mathematics in China,so that it can be clearly seen that Harvard University was an important overseas training base for mathematical talents in modern China.After returning to China,these mathematicians presided over or participated in the founding of the earliest mathematics departments in China,such as the Department of Mathematics of Peking University and that of Nankai University,and also took part in the compilation of mathematics textbooks,the unifying of mathematical terminology in Chinese,the construction of academic groups such as the Chinese Mathematical Society,and the establishment of research institutions such as the Institute of Mathematics of the Academia Sinica,making a foundational contribution to the institutionalization of modern mathematics in China.
