摘　　要：Saline giants are thick,regionally extensive marine evaporites composed primarily of gypsum(CaSO_(4)·2H_(2)O),anhydrite(CaSO_(4))and halite(NaCl)that crystallize from hypersaline solutions known as brine.No present-day analogues exist because modern evaporites are mostly associated with sabkhas or salterns of limited extent.Remarkably,though evaporites account for less than 2%of the world’s sedimentary rocks,one-half of the largest oilfields are hosted by saline giants[1,2].
