Au and Ag are commonly employed for exciting surface plasmon resonance(SPR).Ag exhibits lower Ohmic losses than Au,resulting in narrower loss spectra. However,Ag is prone to oxidation. On the other hand, titanium TiO_(2) offers advantages such as chemical stability and tunability. Therefore,to develop a high-performance and stable sensor,a tapered multimode optical fiber(MMF)SPR sensor based on Ag/TiO_(2) was proposed.TiO_(2) enhanced sensor sensitivity and preserved the advantage of a narrow loss spectrum, while also protecting Ag from oxidation. The sensor demonstrated high sensitivity and a high figure of merit(FOM),exhibiting outstanding performance within the communication wavelength range. For in-depth investigation, numerical studies were conducted using the finite element method(FEM)simulation tool based on COMSOL Multiphysics software.Simulation results indicate that the sensor achieves a maximum wavelength sensitivity of 16000 nm/RIU,with a maximum FOM value of 1920 RIU^(-1).This research provides valuable design insights and for the development of high-performance SPR sensors.
