摘　　要：Insect virology constitutes a niche within microbiology,focusing on viruses that infect insect populations.Viruses detrimental to beneficial insects such as honeybees and silk worms and some arthropods(e.g.shrimps),disrupt pollination and impose substantial losses in sericulture,apiculture,and aquaculture,causing agricultural damage.On the other hand,some insect viruses specifically infecting insect pests are considered promising biological control agents that are safe and harmless to the environment.Furthermore,certain insect viruses such as baculoviruses have been widely used in gene expression and delivery.All these unique properties of insect viruses have made insect virology an attractive field for both scientific exploration and industrial applications.
