The two representative works of Chinese-American writer Fae Myenne Ng,Bones and Steer Toward Rock, jointly depict the political oppression and power stripping of American Chinese, especially male Chinese,in the enclosed space of San Francisco’s Chinatown. The American Chinese community in the novel attempts to break through the closed and isolated physical, social, and psychological spaces of Chinatown in American politics. With the efforts of breaking the binary opposition between margins and mainstream, closed and open, truth and lies, they have created a new generation of independent, autonomous, inclusive, and all encompassing“in-between”or“the third space”between Chinese stories and American reality, and constructed a free and autonomous representation space for Chinese-American people.
