Political trust serves as a bond between individual citizens and the political system and is particularly crucial for the legitimacy of emerging democratic countries. However, with the continuous innovation of digital technology, the rise of various new media has greatly changed the status relationship between communication subjects and objects, subverting the traditional path of political trust. This study examines the impact of new media contact on po-litical trust among Indonesian citizens using data of the Asian Barometer Surveys conducted in 2011,2016,and 2019.The results indicate that new media contact has a significant negative impact on the overall level of political trust among Indonesian citizens. It has generated nega-tive impact on trust in governments, public servants, policeman, political parties, the parlia-ment,and the judiciary, while the trust to the President and the military are not significantly influenced.Mechanism analysis reveals the perceived social fairness is vital in this model.New media contact would weaken public perception of social fairness, and then lead a lower politi-cal trust.
