Sclerosing protein(SOST gene encoded protein)is a secreted transmembrane glycoprotein that plays a crucial role in bone development and bone mineral density(BMD)regulation. It is mainly expressed by chondrocytes in articular cartilage and bone cells in subchondral bone.During bone formation,SOST plays a crucial regulatory role by inhibiting the Wnt signaling pathway and regulating inflammation induced cartilage metabolism.Starting from the role of sclerotin and its regulatory gene SOST in the development of articular cartilage, this article reviews the relevant mechanisms of sclerotin's involvement in the development of joint diseases, and explores its potential as a molecule for the prevention and treatment of articular cartilage and its clinical applications.
