摘　　要：China Mergers Two of Its Largest Brokers China will combine two of its largest statebacked securities firms to create a new giant in the brokerage industry,as it eyes consolidation in the USD1.7 trillion sector to boost competitiveness with global investment firms.Larger broker Guotai junan Securities Co.will be merged with its smaller rival Haitong Securities Co.via a share swap,both companies announced on September 6.The end result will be a mammoth new entity with assets aggregating to CNY1.6 trillion(USD230 billion),which would surpass CITIC Securities Co.as the largest broker in the industry.The merger is still subject to final approval from the respective boards and shareholders of each company,as well as the regulator.
