There are a lot of descriptions of officials accepting and giving bribes in the Biography of the Awakening Marriage, and by comparing it with other Ming literature,it can be found that the bribery culture of officials in the late Ming Dynasty not only existed among high-ranking officials, but also spread to the bottom officials and their relatives, and even among the people, and giving bribes has become a common“unspoken rule”for all people to acquiesce in.The formation of this trend of bribery at the end of Ming Dynasty has a threefold origin:institutionally, the negative impact of the policy of corvee service and aid to the the substitution of corvee service with money and money in exchange for admission to the Imperial College prison at the end of Ming Dynasty, and the absence of legal regulation provided objective conditions for bribery.Economically, the prosperous development of the commodity economy provided the material conditions for the prevalence of corruption.Culturally, the people of the late Ming Dynasty blindly worshiped money, and the social morality decayed.
