Jazz is one of America's most popular forms of music.Originating from the African-American population of former slaves, the music is a mixture of musical elements from West Africa and European harmonic structure. As jazz music developed in the 20th century,it spread to all the countries in the world, and China was no exception. In the 1920s Shanghai was one of the world's most cosmopolitan cities, and every night the Shanghai ballrooms were filled with people dancing to the music of jazz bands.Even Song Meiling was an avid fan of jazz. When she and Chiang Kai-shek got married in 1927,she hired a jazz band to play at the wedding reception.
