“经济理性”抑或“经世情怀”——人文语义学视域下五四文白之争的“经济”观念

摘　　要：自古至今,“经济”观念在文学创作中都扮演着重要角色。“五四”时期正值中国文学古今转型之际,新青年派与学衡派围绕文白之争中的“经济”问题交锋,此中不但牵涉文言、白话孰优孰劣的学理论证问题,也反映了“经济”一词从“经世情怀”到“经济理性”的古今语义变迁。学衡派与新青年派的“经济”之争表面上围绕“经济理性”展开,但背后却隐藏着各自经世观的对抗。新青年派以“文学上的德谟克拉西”的理念推进文学革命,以打造突破文化等级的语言秩序;学衡派以“斯文在兹”的责任担当坚持“雅正”的文言书写,以守护中国人文传统的“价值”和“秩序”。他们的语言文学规划背后都有着按照一定道德价值规则建构社会秩序、惠及天下万民的“经世济民”情怀。Since ancient times,the concept of“economy”has played an important role in literary creation.During the“May Fourth”,a period of transition in Chinese literature from ancient to modern times,the New Youth School and the Xueheng School clashed over the issue of“economy”in the debate over literary(classical)and vernacular(colloquial)language.This not only involved theoretical debates over the superiority or inferiority of classical and vernacular Chinese,but also reflected the semantic shifts of the term“economy”from“jingshi sentiment”(concern for governing the world and benefiting the people)to“economic rationality”across ancient and modern times.The debate over“economy”between the Xueheng School and the New Youth School ostensibly revolves around“economic rationality”,but behind it lies the confrontation of their respective jingshi concepts.The New Youth faction advances the literary revolution with the concept of“democracy in literature”to create a language and literary order that transcends cultural hierarchy.The Xueheng School insists on“elegant and correct”writing in classical Chinese,shouldering the responsibility of“preserving culture”to uphold the“values”and“order”of Chinese humanistic tradition.Behind their language and literature planning,there is a shared sentiment of“governing the world and benefiting the people”,constructing social order according to certain moral values and rules for the well-being of all people.
