Cancer pain belongs to the category of“pain syndrome”in traditional Chinese medicine, based on“heart hiding spirit”in Suwen·Xuanming Wuqi,“so the mind is called the heart”in Lingshu·Benshen, and“all pain and itching sores belong to the heart”in Suwen·Zhizhenyao Dalun. It is believed that the heart is the“receptor”of physical pain, and restlessness is one of the pathogenesis of pain.Blockage of veins and mind, deficiency of qi and blood, loss of nourishment of spirit, cold toxin injuring yang and mind being trapped, accumulation of mind in heat toxin, liver depression,qi stagnation and loss of mind can all lead to mental uneasiness. Thus,on the basis of the pathogenesis of pain syndrome,“restlessness resulting in pain”was put forward, and the method of calming the mind was integrated into the treatment of cancer pain,in order to provide reference for the diagnosis and treatment of pain syndrome in traditional Chinese medicine.
