Objective To investigate the application of virtual reality(VR)in the rehabilitation of upper limb fine motor function after viral encephalitis in children. Methods The study subjects were 60 patients with viral encephalitis aged 6-14 years old who were hospitalized in the Children's Rehabilitation Department of Jiangbin Hospital in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region from July 2021 to December 2022,and were randomly divided into experimental group(30 cases)and control group(30 cases). The control group received conventional rehabilitation treatment, and the experimental group was applied VR technology on the basis of conventional rehabilitation treatment.Surface electromyography, the Chinese version of Melbourne Unilateral Upper Limb Function Assessment Scale 2 and the Jamar gripometer were used to evaluate the fine motor function of the upper limbs of the patients in both groups before and 12 weeks after treatment. Results Before treatment, there were no significant differences in sEMG,MA2 and Jamar grip dynamometer scores between the two groups(P>0.05).After 12 weeks of treatment,sEMG,MA2 and Jamar gripometer scores in both groups were significantly improved compared with before treatment(P<0.05),and scores in experimental group were significantly improved compared with control group(P<0.05).Conclusion Virtual reality(VR)can effectively improve fine motor function after viral encephalitis in children.
