摘 要:古典散文是中国文章写作的精粹,其英译是典籍英译研究的重要组成部分。“翻译就是做文章”,相比西方以语言转换为基础的翻译理论,中国译论中的文章翻译学更能有效指导古典散文的英译实践。本文以文章翻译学为纲,选取桐城派刘大櫆散文名篇《游万柳堂记》的英译本进行案例分析,考察桐城派文气论在古典散文英译中的适应性。研究认为,古典散文的英译要贴合原作的写作章法,以“气合”贯穿始终,使译文在音、义、篇等方面都与原文相得益彰,达到浑然一体、自然流畅的境界。Classical prose represents the essence of Chinese literary expression,and its translation into English constitutes a vital component of the study of translating classical texts.Compared to Western theories which primarily focus on linguistic conversion,Chinese Compositional Translatology adhering to the principle of"translation is essentially writing",provides more effective guidance for translating classical prose.This paper,under the guidance of Compositional Translatology,taking the translation of The Mansion of Willow written by Liu Dakui of Tongcheng School as a study case,explores the applicability of Tongcheng School's Wenqi theory in English translation of classical Chinese prose.The study suggests that English translation of classical Chinese prose should adhere closely to the source text's stylistic composition,incorporating the concept of"matching in literary strength"throughout,to ensure that the translated text resonates in terms of phonetics,semantics,and structure with the original,achieving a state of seamless integration and natural fluency.
