摘　　要：Dear Editor,Aortic dissection(AD)is a fatal disease caused by dysfunction of elastin contractile units,which are composed of extracellular matrix(ECM)and aortic smooth muscle cells(AoSMCs),and eventual disruption of aortic integrity[1].AoSMCs are the center of the elastin contractile unit,whose phenotype and functionality can be affected by factors that predispose patients to AD,including atherosclerosis,hypertension,smoking,hyperlipidemia,diabetes,and genetics.The intrinsic stiffness of AoSMCs,which is also impacted by these risk factors,plays an important role in regulating vascular tone and ECM remodeling.
