To study the impact of spatial morphology on outdoor thermal comfort in the old water town districts of Suzhou,on-site thermal environment measurements were conducted in Suzhou's Block NO.32.The study found significant differences in the winter thermal environment of the alleys, indicating potential for improvement.Typical spaces within the block were selected for landscape optimization design, and the ENVI-met software was used to simulate and analyze the optimized outdoor spaces based on Physiological Equivalent Temperature(PET)and other indicators. The results showed:(1)The riverside areas are more comfortable than the interior of the block, highlighting the advantage of the microclimate regulation provided by water bodies. The embankment areas should be fully utilized to benefit both residents and tourists.(2)The microclimate in the green spaces within the alleys is relatively stable. For the open, unshaded hard public spaces within the block, wider road spaces should have increased greenery to create green spaces that regulate the microclimate. These findings provide references for improving the winter outdoor thermal environment and for future redesigns of old districts.
