摘 要:During a meeting at the White House in April 2024,leaders of the United States,Japan, and the Philippines agreed to elevate the three countries’trilateral relationship to a partnership in the forefront for a peaceful, stable, and prosperous Indo-Pacific.They resolved to advance the trilateral cooperation on defense and economic security.1 This meeting, regarded as a“historic summit,”aimed to deepen the three nations’overall strategic coordination in the Indo-Pacific across diplomatic, military, and economic domains and institutionalize trilateral cooperation.2 The triad has sought to integrate the established trilateral cooperation into a comprehensive strategic coordination framework and promote its steady development by deepening cooperation across economic, social, and other sectors. As the US Indo-Pacific strategy strides and related mini-lateral security mechanisms are successively renewed, the US intention of meddling in the South China Sea issue and the Taiwan question, intensifying deterrence against China, and revising the regional order becomes clear. In this context, the USJapan-Philippines trilateral cooperation mechanism increasingly plays a crucial role in“internal facilitation and external connection”for the three countries.
