With the growing problem of environmental pollution, the demand for nonwoven materials with ef-ficient filtration properties is growing rapidly. The energy burden and environmental concerns associated with tra-ditional petroleum-based polymer materials have prompted interest in bio-based nonwovens. Polylactic acid (PLA), as a bio-based degradable polymer, shows great potential in the field of meltblown nonwoven materials. In this paper, the latest research progress in PLA-based meltblown nonwoven materials was reviewed, including processing and moulding, process optimization, modification methods (blending/ copolymerisation, compoun-ding/ doping, electret modification and other treatments), and applications in the fields of air filtration, medical and healthcare, food preservation and oil-water separation. Through raw material design, modification technolo-gy, after-finishing and other methods, the performance of PLA meltblown nonwoven materials significantly im-proved, showing application prospect in many fields. With technological advance and increasing environmental protection awareness, PLA-based meltblown nonwoven materials will play an important role in sustainable devel-opment.
