Compositional Types and Institutional Shaping:The Narrative of Benevolent Governance in the Tang Dynasty as Reflected in the Stele of Wei Dan

摘　　要：杜牧《樊川文集》收有三篇與韋丹遺愛碑有關的文章,爲《唐故江西觀察使武陽公韋公遺愛碑》《進撰故江西韋大夫遺愛碑文表》及《謝許受江西送撰韋丹碑彩絹等狀》[1](以下分别簡稱爲《韋碑》《進表》及《謝狀》),這三篇文章展現了一個鏈條較爲完整且細節豐富的唐代德政碑文進撰過程,頗爲難得。The inscription,the submittal,and the zhuang狀to express gratitude for receiving payment of the stele of Wei Dan韋丹in Collected Works of Fan Chuan樊川文集by Du Mu杜牧provide many clues to examine the inscription composition of the steles of benevolent governance in the Tang dynasty and relevant institutions.The bestowal of the stele of Wei Dan was a link of implementing political propaganda about taking Yuan He元和as model by the court of Xuan Zong宣宗.With the joint help of Zhou Chi's周墀recommendation,his own political achievements and good fame,Wei Dan turned out to represent benevolent officials during Yuan He and was awarded the stele of benevolent governance.The three articles about the stele of Wei Dan give a hint about the process,materials and character of author of the inscription composing of the steles of benevolent governance in the Tang dynasty.It can be used to conclude the composing types of the inscription of the steles of benevolent governance in the Tang dynasty.In addition,by comparing the inscription of the stele of Wei Dan and the epitaph of Wei Dan,it can be found that works which reflect political achievements such as exploiting land,increasing households and constructions written in kaozhuang考狀constitute the key of the steles of benevolent governance inscription.Besides,dezhengzhuang德政狀,which applicants are required to submit according to the institution of applying for a stele of benevolent governance,is the main material of inscription composition.The assessment institution and steles of benevolent governance application institution of the Tang dynasty interweave with each other,and shape the inscription of the steles of benevolent governance in the Tang dynasty.
