摘　　要：通过对乡村庄园、地理风景和海滩码头的刻画,《长日留痕》展现了依靠空间隐喻的英国性在怀旧主体行为和思想上从封闭走向开放的变化。美国崛起祛除了贵族权力,使帝国政治面临衰亡。男管家史蒂文斯俯瞰英格兰,在回忆中质疑尊严和责任,拆解庄园神话,哀悼英国性丧失。史蒂文斯的旅行隐藏对绅士理想的欲望,融合宗主国殖民想象,解构了精英观念。作为记忆主体的史蒂文斯最终修正思想,参加狂欢团体,吸纳文化他者,重塑了多元英国性。小说通过对帝国怀旧浪潮的嘲讽,批判了狭隘民族主义和种族歧视,倡导英国社会营造多种族、多民族混杂共生的文化环境,积极地融入普遍多元主义的世界潮流。Through the portrayal of the manor,landscapes and pier,The Remains of the Day shows that the Englishness relying on space metaphor changes from being closed to open in the behavior and thought of nostalgic subject.The rise of the United States destroys the aristocratic power,making the imperial politics in decline.The butler Stevens overlooks England,questioning the dignity and responsibility in his memories,deconstructing the manor myths and mourning the loss of the Englishness.Stevens’s travel conceals his desire for the gentleman ideal,integrates the colonial imagination of the Britain empire and deconstructs the elite thought.As the memory subject,Stevens eventually revises his thoughts,participates in the tourist group,learns the Cultural Other,and reshapes the pluralistic Englishness.By mocking the wave of imperial nostalgia,the novel criticizes narrow nationalism and racial discrimination,advocates that British society should create a multi-racial,multi-ethnic mixed cultural environment,and actively integrate into the world trend of universal pluralism.
