Influenced by African culture,Chinua Achebe remains highly sensitive to sound through his narrative texts.Noticeably in Things Fall Apart, with his unique acoustic narration,Achebe performs the colonizing process by an exotic subversion of the local soundscape,so as not only to eloquently justify the traditional Igbo civilization, but to denounce colonialists'"sound imperialism"relying on noise as the medium. As the unique function of sound elements in this fiction, this paper intends to detach the underlying soundtrack and to clarify the abundant connotation of"falling apart",endeavoring to enunciate the sound hegemony and its ideological influence through a colonialist context.
