摘　　要：INTRODUCTION Subacute thyroiditis is a self-limiting inflammatory disorder of the thyroid gland in which a viral infection has most often been implicated as the cause.Many cases of subacute thyroiditis follow an upper respiratory viral illness,which is thought to trigger inflammatory destruction of thyroid follicles.As in other forms of destructive thyroiditis,preformed thyroid hormone is released into the blood,leading to increased levels of thyroid hormone and suppressed thyroidstimulating hormone (TSH) activity.During the thyrotoxic phase of subacute thyroiditis,the thyroid scan shows a low uptake of iodine.
